http://abc7ny.com/news/jimmy-breslin-nyc-newspaper-columnist-and-best-selling-author-dies-at-86/1807972/      This one hits real close because of the "Son of Sam" case. I worked at the Bronx General Post Office and so did David Berkowitz. I used to talk with him often even talked about the reward money for catching him not knowing that HE WAS "Son of Sam". I got to talking with Berkowitz because there was an employee's singing choir group which I played guitar for that rehearsed musical standards and show tunes in the employee cafeteria. When they finished I would hang around and play some modern music. Berkowitz would be there on a coffee break because he was arrivng to work on the afternoon/evening shift and would request the Hendrix song, "Purple Haze". Breslin wrote about it giving clues that I couldn't connect the dots to so you know I felt like "solid waste" when they announced who the ".44 Caliber Killer" was. The biggest clue that I didn't note was when Breslin wrote about the Jimi Hendrix song "Purple Haze" and how if played backwards, you can hear the words: "Son of Sam, Son of Sam". I found out he was arrested from a former bandmate who was an NYPD detective working out of 1 Police Plaza. He called me in the early afternoon and asked me to recall the names of postal coworkers I had previously given to him. When I did, he told me: "you don't know how close you were", then told me to turn my TV on because there was going to be a news conference about "Son of Sam's" arrest.

Thanks, G-Man ! (Who Knew !?!)

Breslin was a Great Writer and Bona-Fide NYC All-Around Pain in the Ass.  ;)

Not fer Nuthin' But, during The Summer of Sam, I told anyone who would listen -
he's gonna' come to Brooklyn, and Get a Parking Ticket & they'll get him.

Father of my Friend; Det. Brian Towle was on the S.o.S. Sqd. Later made Lt. NYPD.
Years later Lt. Towle Shot & Killed a Hold-Up Man at O'Halloran's Bar on Ave. J.

Unfortunately for the Perp., the Bartender & the Lt. were the only two present in the tavern
for the Stick-Up.
