Today, at 1343 hours, the SWFD was dispatched to the 1600 block of Main Street for a report of flames coming from the window of a home. The first Officer on scene reported smoke coming from an attic window with a resident inside attempting to extinguish the fire. The resident was quickly evacuated. Crews were able to locate the fire in the attic wall and surrounding window sill and quickly extinguish it with minimal damage. One firefighter was evaluated on scene by EMS.
Chief Officers 11, 12, 14 and 15 on scene with Tower 1, Rescue 5, Squad 2, Engines 3, 4, 6 and 8 while FP9 and UT13 provided scene support. This represents 39 South Windsor Firefighters.
Jurisdictional coverage was provided by the Broad Brook Fire Department, The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department (CT) and Windsor Fire Department. The Manchester Fire Department was dispatched and released shortly after.
The South Windsor Fire Department reminds you of the importance of evacuating your home in the event of a fire. In less than 30 seconds a small flame can turn into a major fire. It only takes minutes for thick black smoke to fill a house or for it to be engulfed in flames
Media inquiries should be directed to DC Scott Fine: sfine@southwindsorfire.org. Origin and Cause is under investigation by the South Windsor Fire Marshal's Office.
