SPOKANE, WA - City moves to reduce fire response times

I am sure that may of the areas served are reached in 5 mins or less but to have 8 mins as the acceptable standard for a municipal dept is crazy! The reference to the acceptance of a two man crew is a slap in the face to acceptable manning, In my opinion 3 is crazy! Just one old bosses opinion!

A 2 man crew may be okay if you're only running EMS but the station is supposed to be full-service including firefighting.  We all know it's impossible to do any kind of reasonable attack or even rescue with a two-man crew even if you disregard the 2 in 2 out criteria!  Adding that station isn't going to reduce the time to have sufficient manpower on scene to do anything effectively.

The annexation deal sounds like another fiasco.  I've seen several cities where they still have fire protection coverage from an outside agency (district 10 in this case) and doing that would have saved them the half-million dollars per year plus reduced strain on firefighting resources of the city.
