South Korea has a population of 52 million citizens in a very small area, Seoul has a higher population density than Tokyo or NYC. A large portion of the populace live in high-rise apartments with underground parking.
Last week, in the city of Incheon, a Mercedes-Benz EQE EV (not on a charger) caught fire in an underground apartment parking lot. It took eight hours to extinguish. Although there were no deaths or significant injuries, when it was over dozens of adjacent cars were destroyed and another hundred damaged. Also, utilities were lost leaving hundreds of residents homeless.
The problem of EV fires now has that entire country's complete attention.
Companies (for example LG) want their employees to park outside. EV charging stations are being moved aboveground. Some apartments are demanding EV owning tenants to sign a pledge of liability.
Only a matter of time until this happens in the US. Engine companies may want to review Loftus distributors/cellar pipe SOP's.
