I saw a bit on the local TV news last night regarding Sutphen Apparatus. They have opened "Sutphen East" in Wayne County, Pa. on state route 191 just north of I-84. It was reported that chassis will be brought to this facility from their Ohio plant and custom apparatus will be finished here in Pa. The plant is located in a brand new industrial park and they are one of the first to move in.

Some of us may remember the TWO Sutphen Tower Ladders FDNY bought. I think they were 100 ft and assigned to Ladders Co 14 and 119.

At the end 119 had both of the Sutphens in their qtrs....the 2nd one (old 14) was a spare only to be used by 119 as other LADs were not trained on it.....also even though they both had pumps the agreement between the City & the Union was the the pumps would not be used.

Sutphen has been down this road before. My company's 1994 engine was built at their upstate NY facility. The apparatus built in Ohio (Amlin) outside Columbus had a much better service record ( We also had a 1990 tower ladder, no pump) . Hope they have better success in PA.  Overall an excellent custom apparatus built by a manufacturer in the business for over 100 years

The point was that it was a Ladder w/Ladder Staffing no additional men to do Engine work it was never planned to be used as Quint in the FDNY.

Oh, Ok, Thanks.
So did they use the pumps on the ALF / LTI Quints? Were they planned?
