House Fire on Mildred Avenue

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – At 8:39 pm this evening, Syracuse Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire with reports of people still inside the home at 164 Mildred Avenue. Engine Company 9, Ladder 4 and Car 4, housed at Station #9 located at 400 Shuart Avenue, arrived on scene within minutes to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the two family, 2.5 story wood frame structure.

Crews immediately began attacking the fire and conducting searches of the structure. A total of 34 firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire in approximately 30 minutes. All eight occupants of the two apartments were accounted for and no injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters. Firefighters did find three uninjured cats on the second floor of the home.

The Syracuse Police Department, National Grid, and the local chapter of the American Red Cross also responded to the incident to assist the occupants. Members of the Fire Investigation Bureau are currently working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The 100 block of Mildred Avenue remains closed, please avoid the area
