One of the members who died on 9/11 was Keithroy Maynard, He was assigned to Ladder 122, but detailed to Engine 33 for the tour. I believe his father was a former Captain at Engine Company 47.

At the time, his twin brother Kevin worked in Houston for Continental Airlines. Afterwards, he did what he should have done all along. He joined the Houston Fire Department and subsequently ended up at Station 82 in southwest Houston on the B Shift. The Captain, Ray B and his long time E/O Doug were friends of mine. I would sometimes go ride there on a Sunday afternoon and that's where I met Kevin. The firehouse was like "The Odd Couple"- a bunch of gray haired (for those with hair) East Texas good ol' boys and the Black kid from New Yawk.

Keithroy's remains were finally identified years later. A bunch of guys from 82's accompanied Kevin home to NYC for the memorial services. As you would expect, as, well, visiting fireman, they got the royal treatment from 122's and Engine 33.

Afterwards, Captain B told me was still laughing about the bucket of water sitting at the ready on the second floor balcony on Great Jones Street.
