History
The Union Fire Company was established in 1747. Later more volunteer companies were formed. The thirteen volunteer fire companies were disbanded and the Trenton Fire Department became one of the first paid fire departments in the United States on April 4, 1892. The fire department employs around 224 firefighters. The history of the department is on display at the Meredith Havens Fire Museum which is part of the Fire Headquarters building on Perry Street.
