I just caught wind that this university has ceased to exist as such, and its constituent entities were mostly folded into Rutgers (Rowan got something as well).

I liked UMDNJ's heavy rescues. Will their apparatus be transferred to Rutgers/RBHS, or sold off?

Rev CFD, I think it might have something to do with University Hospital which handles all the Emergency Medical transport in places like Newark, I think South Orange, NJ, and Atlantic City.

Like you, I would like a little more info of what this is all about.

"New Jersey Medical and Health Sciences Education Restructuring Act of 2012 transitioned most of the schools and units of UMDNJ into Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, separated University Hospital from UMDNJ and made the hospital a separate, stand-alone entity as of July 1, 2013."

The hospital has changed it's status as a 'teaching hospital.' Nothing says anywhere that the hospital based EMS service is changing or closing.

The EMS division, which covers greater Newark, runs a heavy rescue and provides concurrent service with Newark FD.

Thanks "Truck 4". That explains it as to what is going on.

I've been to the EMS site in Newark. At first I thought they closed it down.

Pretty much everything but the Newark hospital, Graduate School for Biomedical Sciences (GSBS), and School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM) went over to Rutgers. GSBS and SOM are now a part of Rowan University, which became a research university with the addition of the SOM. Newark Hospital is now an independent state institution so I'm assuming the ambulance fleet still exists but with different writing on it.

Being an NJ resident and attending SOM, this was a huge event. Just not sure yet if it was for the good or the bad.

Ohhhh, GSBS. Sorry, I completely had the wrong initials.  :-[ Happens when I hurry, even when I think I'm not hurrying.

To address an earlier poster, I, too, am not from the NYC tri-state. But I thought I was completely in the minority. I am actually from San Diego, which imho has some nice vehicles of its own. I know FDNY has its buffs, and I'm a fan of their apparatus as well. But I thought I did see info about Wchester and Rockland and north Jersey and whatever other surrounding areas there are, hence my assumption that people knew what the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ was.

Thanks for everybody's attempts at an answer. I guess I wondered if we should be expecting to see a rebrand of the vehicles that includes painting them in "Rutgers red", if such a thing exists (red and white? both schoolcolors?).

So, sorry to cause all this mess. I'm just a fan of what I saw from UMDNJ.

Finally!  Someone posted what it meant!  And it took a FNG to do it!  ;) :D

For Buff 188:  Thank you!  and welcome to the board.  You'll learn what it takes to keep old farts like me happy.  ::) 8)  :p
