On the morning of Thursday, July 20th, the Uniondale Fire Dept. was called to a report of smoke in the basement at a home on Moffat Pl. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with a fire in the basement of a two-story Cape style private dwelling. A working fire was transmitted and mutual aid requested. Firefighters stretched two hand lines off Uniondale Engine 7533, put one hand line into operation, and had the fire quickly extinguished before it could extend to the floors above. One occupant was transported from the scene to an area hospital for smoke inhalation and a firefighter was treated on scene for heat exhaustion. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Uniondale Chief of Dept. Ellerbe [7500]. Text courtesy K2M Photography.
