At 12:09 yesterday, the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to assist the Nassau County Police Department with a construction worker trapped on a roof on North Corona Avenue. Upon arrival of Assistant Chief Capone, it was determined that a home under construction partially collapsed, injuring a worker. Chief Capone asked the alarm to be upgraded to alert all Valley Stream units and start out the Elmont Fire Department Technical Rescue (7093). Firefighters assisted in removing one injured worker from the rear set back roof, while others turned off the gas and electric to the home. The worker was transported via Nassau County Police Medics to local hospital in stable condition. Due to the severity of the damage, the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream building department called for a immediate demolition of the home. The Lynbrook Fire Department also responded to the scene as a FAST (Firefighter Assist & Search Team). Valley Stream Units operated for an hour and all operations were under the command of Assistant Chief Anthony Capone. Text courtesy Nassau County Fire Service Academy.
