Incident Location: 106 Lutz Drive

This morning the Nassau County Fire Communications notified the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department for wires burning against a house on Lutz Drive. Upon the arrival of units, it was determined that the electric service to the house had burned away and was laying in the street. Additionally the homeowner said an explosion had occurred. Units sized up the scene and found significant damage to the home. Assistant Chief Colucci immediately requested the Minor Technical Rescue matrix be activated, bringing specially trained firefighters in to access the structure. Firefighters entered the damaged home through visible smoke and located a fire in the basement. The fire was quickly knocked down however units operated on scene for two hours. Mutual aid was received from numerous surrounding departments. The Nassau County Fire Marshals Office is investigating what caused the explosion. The building was left in the hands of the Village of Valley Stream Buildings Department, who deemed the house unsafe. Prior to fire department arrival, a homeowner received minor burns. Engine 342 and Tower Ladder 345 were first due with all operations under the command of Assistant Chief Colucci. (Text Credit VSFD)
