Around 10:06pm, Virginia Beach Communications started to receive multiple calls for first one, then two homes on fire in the 1500 block of Hummingbird Lane. This is located in the Eagle Rock subdivision, just south of NAS Oceana's main gate on Oceana Boulevard. First arriving Engine 12 reported heavy fire with exposures on either side of the structures. Wind conditions didn't help matters. Command requested two additional engines, one ladder and one ambulance as additional help, bring the fire under control in ten minutes or so. Animal Control also responded, three dogs were rescued from one of the structures. Two homes suffered serious damage, and a third receiving what appears to be lighter damage. No injuries or fatalities were reported from this incident, and investigators are on scene for cause determination.
