When a city protects the criminal rights rather than the police officers rights.
Interesting, but just about three weeks ago, I was talking to a good friend. We grew up together and often chased the fires of NYC together. He called me because he was up here from Virginia visiting his family. On his way up here and back, he got off the S.I. Expressway to do a little tour of the boro. His words to me were, "Willy, you can't believe how bad some parts of Staten Island is now".
The guy, a member and contributor to this site (BFD151) had retired from the Bridgeport (CT) Fire Dept several years ago when that city, like so many others, had their own set of War Years, dealing with a record number of fires, numerous vacant buildings, drugs, criminal activity, outside piles of rubbish, etc. And at that point it was "Totally Out of Control". He told me that parts of Staten Island are just like that now.
Unfortunately, this article backs up every word he said.
It's time for the Good People to Take Back the streets and this park, that is RIGHTFULLY THEIRS. It's time to let the members of the NYPD do the job without their hands tied. They are there to Protect "Your Rights" Too. Let the NYPD do their job and win YOUR streets back even if it takes one block at a time.
