Once again, the friends and families of our firefighters pay the price. This time it is our Brothers in Wilmington, Del. No matter how anybody tries or no matter where it is, "this will ALWAYS be a dangerous job".
I never realized how difficult it can be for the families of our firefighters until one day about three years ago. It happened to one of the members here whose son is a firefighter. There had been a very serious fire with reports of two firefighters seriously hurt. I asked him if he heard from his son and he said no. I knew his son worked in the same company as the guys being reported as injured.
I called again about three hours later and he still didn't hear from his son. I began to feel what it is like to have a close family member who works as a firefighter. Finally after about seven hours he had heard from his son. His son was okay but the fire had taken the life of his Lt and another firefighter. I then realized that it takes a very special person to have a spouse or son/daughter on the fire dept. I it was me at home I couldn't sleep at night wondering what they are doing out there.
To the injured member my prayers are with him for a full recovery.
To the friends and families, as well as the Brother Firefighters my condolences.
