I am just curious what the relationship, if any, is between Yonkers and FDNY. Yonkers seems to me to be the biggest bordering dept of NYC. But it does seem like the border is rarely crossed in either direction. I understand that FDNY is so large it can fill its own alarms and houses to maintain coverage, but it seems like Yonkers uses other Westchester County departments for scene responses or house coverage. Is FDNY ever on a Yonkers alarm assignment or would it need to be a major catastrophe for mutual aid to happen?

The FDNY responds on certain boxes that are close to the border (I believe?) but for the most part mutual aid for the land units is rare.

The FDNY has several mutual aid boxes preset

Manhattan Box 0300 - Bayonne Bridge via Holland Tunnel Staging
Manhattan Box 0500 - Jersey City @ Holland Tunnel Staging
Manhattan Box 0600 - Jersey City @ Lincoln Tunnel Staging
Queens Box 0500 - Nassau County @ E313 Staging
Queens Box 0600 - Nassau County @ E304 Staging
Queens Box 0700 - Nassau County @ E314 Staging
Bronx Box 3000 - Yonkers @ E081 Staging
Bronx Box 4400 - Westchester @ E038 Staging
Bronx Box 8999 - Yonkers Dual Response
And probably some more that I am missing

FDNY Units are also usually assigned when incidents are reported close to the border of the various counties, And for alot of marine incidents.

Threads for the hose/hydrant connections is the main limiting factor. Some north-bronx companies do have adapters for the threads however. But for the most part, westchester county as a whole would have to be overwhelmed for the FDNY to send a significant response

FDNY Is definitely not on a Yonkers alarm assignment, it would really just be for major incidents / specific requests would have to be made to Higher Ups, for Mutual Aid Box. Very rare obviously. I do remember years ago, Yonkers had a 4th alarm close to the border and E81 was special called due to needing FDNY fittings on hydrant.
