B73--the Department probably manned a bunch, if not all, of the reserve companies because of the weather.

From the screen...ENG* 164..151..168..LAD*84..76.. BN*73 ..ENG*167..SQ*800..LAD*87 FAST..BN*23..DV*08..R*5..RAC*5..BRUSH FIRE * 4..ENG*162..LAD*82..SAT*5..ENG*159.

SQ800 has a nice ring to it  ;)

BFU4 being 10-84 for a house fire, could their response be due to the snow? I know those rigs would drive through the snow like butter. Also Thawing Apparatus 151 is quartered with second due E151. Not sure if they were assigned but I think they?re the only TA on the island.

Forgive my ignorance, but it seems Satellite 5 is assigned to every 10-75 on Staten Island.  Why is that?  Fewer hydrants/longer stretches there?

Satellite is assigned on the 7-5 signal. A few reasons: older sections of Island, still many 8 in dead end water mains.  Island wide, still areas undeveloped with sparse hydrants

Squad 800 should be made a permanent Staten Island squad. ;)

Yes Gman.  Even in good weather, this is over 20 miles for Squad 1 - a 40 mile roundtrip that takes them out of their Brooklyn response area for a long time every time they get a run to SI, especially on the South Shore.  It takes them too long to get to fire locations on SI and they still have to cross VN Bridge.

Also, Princess Bay area is another location on SI that could use a new firehouse as SI continues to grow.  Pleasant Plains and Princess Bay are long runs for E 164 and E 151 along Amboy Road, which is slow, narrow and congested.

A SI squad, a new firehouse vicinity of SI Mall, a new firehouse in Princess Bay, maybe a new firehouse for L 79/E 156/Bn 22, another truck company for the West Shore and a new SI battalion - all will be needed as SI approaches and surpasses 500K population and as many current firehouses grow old.  These were needs that were discussed 30 years ago.  Good to have E 168 but more is needed.

Mack, right you are about this box being a distance from both 164/84 and 151/76. Box is exactly 1.7 miles from each firehouse - does not sound like much but anyone that knows Amboy Road during rush hour (or in 6" of snow) knows that this is a trek for first due companies!

Coming down the hill on Bloomingdale Road toward Amboy Rd/Pleasant Plains Ave. in snow and ice isn't fun either.

I love how we have the same 3 battalion chiefs out here in since 1930 when no one lived out here!!
