"At 7:06 AM Tuesday, FDNY and NYPD units responded to a report of a person in the water at Pier 57. Rescue 1 was first on scene, and bystanders were waving that a person was under the pier. Rescue 1 Lieutenant John McCann heard the individual and directed Firefighter Timothy Engelke into the water. An NYPD member entered the water and reached the patient. FF Engelke swam under the pier to assist.
Squad 18 arrived on scene, and Firefighter Bryan Antoni quickly donned his cold-water rescue suit and was lowered to the water by Squad 18 Firefighter Matthew Ellsworth. FF Antoni swam under the pier to where FF Engelke and NYPD were. FF Antoni assisted in placing a flotation device onto the victim and together they moved the patient to a portable ladder.
@cbsnewyork captured footage of the operation. FDNY and NYPD worked together to remove this patient quickly and safely from the cold water. The patient was transported to Lenox Hill by EMS."
