What does Richmond and Oceananic actually do?  If they are in first obviously i hope they would get a line in place and VES but if they are second or third due?

secondary searches?

i dont know how i would feel if i were the first due engine and the vollies took my fire.... (no offense to them) there are no vollies in my area so i never had an experience with them......anyone from SI companies that could explain???

They dont do anything. Oceanic is very useful for brush fire duty. Most chiefs will even special call them. Richmond engine is useful at times of high call volume. But neither will be directed to operate at a structure fire by any FDNY chief.

Same use of volunteer companies years back (70s/80s).  Welcomed for brush fires.  Structure fires and other emergencies were handled by FDNY companies.  Usually good rapport.  Volunteer units always reported to chief for possible assignment.

I would think EMS runs today are very different.  A lot of liability and responsibility if they begin treatment.  Do they keep treatment records?  Volunteer members would be personally be subject to possible legal suits from unhappy patients. Do they even respond with E 165 and E 154 for medicals?
