Here's my guess:

There's probably a ferry to Randall's at the foot of 125th Street.

The truck and the chief take that route.

I think Engine 16 is a double company.

The manpower from one section hitch a ride uptown on the fireboat. The steamer and hose wagon take an avenue up to 125th Street and either pick up the crew or take the ferry ride over.

I'd also bet that the footprint of Randall's Island was a lot smaller 125 years ago before dredge spoil was dumped there.
