75' Tower Ladders

Havent heard about this test being done in recent memory, however L-46 has not begun training on new rig yet. I dont think any of the companies have started training so I wonder if there is a problem with them. At least 4 plus the Training rig are delivered.

From this forum we know that Bureau of Training, TL 138 and TL 46 are delivered.  Do you know the other two???????
21 nad 142 are at the dealer in NJ.

Does anyone know if they actually failed the test? If they did fail what happens with the trucks purchased?

If they fail the tests, the department does not accept them for service and the manufacturer has to figure out something to either meet the requirements and have the rig get accepted or it will have to cancel the order and get stuck with the rigs.

What hill climb?

From the FDNY operational Reference July 2009 edition 8

Specifications require new apparatus to climb the Ft George Hill, a distance of 2000 feet with a average grade of 9.8% on St. Nicholas Ave south of Nagle Ave, Manhattan in 105 seconds and to climb the nearby West 186th Street hill between Broadway and Wadsworth Ave in less than 30 seconds.

Thanks, so after all these years they're still doing hill climb testing at Fort George Hill.

Ladder 124 is also at the NJ dealer. I passed by the dealer today after my exam (yeah Rutgers has Sunday exams) on my way over to check out the brush fire in South River.

I can confirm that 77 and 50 are at the dealer. I saw 50 last wednesday and saw 77 yesterday morning. 124 was there last week as well. It was visible in the shop from the road, but was covered in tarp.

Well training has begun and within a week or so L138 and L46 should be getting the rigs with L21 to follow, all issues seem to have been addressed and corrected. Time will tell. When 46 gets the rig I hope to post some photos.

Drove by today and ladder 23 is now on the lot. Seems like try are moving along nicely now. Also the 2010 engines should be starting to pop up  over there around now.

The vollie dept. here outside of Reading, PA has just taken delivery of a new KME 121' ft. rear mount ladder. As soon as I get some pics, I'll post them. They actually had to raise the lintel of the bay door 2 ft. so it would fit.

Heard from another source that L-46 has received their new tower ladder
That is correct. Ladder 46 has received their brand new truck. This should be followed by 21, 124, and 138 (in no particular order). It's a shame to see 21's truck has a limited number of days remaining. It was and will always be a war machine.

hopefully it will end up with a vollie department that will keep it in service for another 20 years

While I kinda agree that it's a beat, I also agree with the guys at the house that it never shoulda came back into service after the 11th. They say dust still puffs out when they hit bumps.

Yeah I still to this day wonder how some of those trucks were ever returned to front line service... and how quickly they all returned. I guess Ladder 24 will be the last remaining truck to survive that day???

Some of the ones they saved were weird. 21 was retained, but Rescue 2 wasn't. From what I recall, Rescue 2's rig wasn't in terrible shape, and there are generally more ladder spares and reserves then Rescue spares and reserves.

My guess is the main reason Rescue 2 was replaced was because FDNY was keeping with their history of having all the rescues the same.  This is and what they have historically done until the purchase of the Pierce for Rescue 1 and that only happened because of all the problems with the rescues they were purchased after 11.

Rescues 1 & 2 were both crushed under one of the West St. foot bridges. Tower Ladder 9 was rebuilt ands is still in service and TL15 is still in frontline service.
