Riots followed in
    Washington DC:    12 killed, 1,200 buildings  burned, including over 900 stores, damages reached $27 million (equivalent to over $156 million today) Washington DC Fire Department 1968 riots   
    Baltimore:  6 killed, 700 injured, 4,500 arrested and over 1,000 fires set, more than a thousand businesses looted or burned, total property damage was estimated at $13.5 million (1968 dollars)
    Louisville KY: 2 killed, 472 arrested, $200K damages (1968 dollars)
    KC:  5 dead

I was in Vietnam when this went down. The enlisted men's clubs were sorta defined as a white club/ an Afro American club. No problem with that different music tastes, etc. But when the 122MM rockets were fired it did not differentiate as to who was going to die. When the riots started the base commander called us all to muster. His exact words were" If anyone wants to fight someone black or white I will give you a M-16, an bandolier with 10 clips and 190 rounds and I will tell the Army you are ready for combat.  Nobody had brass balls after that. But everything sorta changed at the base camps after that. I was lucky I ended up at Forward Operating Locations. Grumpy, FAC 20 TASS HUE/PHUBAI 68-69
 
My personnal opinion, if you act like an animal, well live like an animal. Burn down your neighbhood line in a cardboard box. I really feel for the people their actions destroyed their neighborhood which is completely devested. No one will ever invest in that neighborhood, it is financial suicide. No fresh food markets, only liquor stores. This neighborhood has 95% good people but 5% assholes/gangbangers. And this will come as a shot to all of you. If the WHITE, yes WHITE suburban assholes did not come here to get your drugs, well maybe the gang bangers will move to Glen Ellyn and Wheaton, tight-ass white and REPUBLICAN. But DuPage don't care, get that $50 traffic ticket. And by the way Wheaton is a DRY community, you can't buy a drink but go to 4800Harrison so I can get high. Hyprocites to the max!!!!
