BFD units extinguished a fire in an apartment at 146 North Ivy St. overnight. Branford 911 began receiving calls reporting a bedroom fire at 02:15 this morning. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire while simultaneously ensuring all occupants were out.

Unfortunately while attempting to establish a water supply from the nearest hydrant, it was discovered to have been sheared off rendering it inoperable. It was most likely struck by a vehicle but was left upright in its normal position and never reported. While hand stretching a supply line to the next nearby hydrant, a driver impatiently drove onto our supply hose delaying the operation and potentially causing damage.

Thankfully, neither of these incidents caused harm as firefighters extinguished the fire with tank water from the engine. if the situation had been more serious, a delay in establishing a water supply could have lead to significant fire spread, injuries, or death.

Please do not drive over fire hose! Have patience and watch for emergency workers located in the roadway.

Unfortunately the end is near.

I slept right through it.
Yes it is. They need to expand the mutual aid agreement with East Haven to cover more of the town or hire more guys to cover the volunteer stations.
