CNN is reporting that 34 people are believed dead in a 75' boat fire off Santa Cruz island in Ventura County CA. USCG officials are confirming the loss of life, 5 crew members jumped overboard but the others were trapped below deck.

How can someone have a boat that sleeps 34 souls below deck with one egress.....and have it pass a United States Coast Guard inspection?
 
I ran a similar diveboat like that for years in Hawaii the layout was pretty much the same there is access port and starboard side and one in the bow  we Hadde see if you inspection once a year a whole inspection every two years and a complete COI every five years you could go bankrupt trying to fix all the problems that the Coast Guard wants you to oblige bye but you have to do it anyways as for the crew the captain was probably 110 skipper and he probably only had one deck crew because most of the time the dive masters on board are your deckhands and none are trained in firefighting all the engine  rooms should be and I know are equipped with a fire suppression system I don?t think the galley had one and usually they?re not required to but I know there?s fire extinguishers down below to be used in an emergency and I know the sleeping quarters was equipped with smoke detectors hopefully they were working  i?ve been on many engine room fires and sometimes the onboard suppression system there?s not fully put out the fire and then it escalates from there you do have fire buckets and I don?t think they had a fire mean but if they were equipped with one it would?ve been hooked up to the onboard generator with a PTO with a 1 inch hose From the sounds of it it looks or sounds like the fire was started in the galley and the people below deck were trapped and it was probably dark and confusing as all you guys know and it?s very unfortunate
