They look like a really neat toy but I'm not sure how useful they would really be in the fire service.  It seems like the only practical use for them would be to get to the roof of the building and I'm not sure if they could even carry enough weight to make it useful.  The article said they can carry 285 pounds of the time you figure the firefighter it all of his personal gear that doesn't leave much for firefighting equipment.
