Hello folks,
A few questions. I live on Long Island and I used to listen in often but I just don't have the time/interest like I used to.
1) Are the EMS frequencies also in the FD's radios, and visa-versa?
2) I've heard rumors of simplex operation frequencies. (Fireground if you will..) I'm guessing their on UHF. What are those frequencies? Are they Borough specific or are they the same frequencies for all five boroughs?
3) What is the actual layout of the radios? (Alias / Channel number)
4) I know that the portables are XTS5000's model's 1 and 3. What are the mobiles?
5) lastly, just to confirm... are these frequencies 6.25kHz step?
Also, to answer the switchover question - it is not hard at all to switch out radios. (Haven't seen the inside of an FDNY truck in a long time so I don't know the setup), but if memory serves me correctly, I think they're remote mounted. The old radio pop's out, the new radio pops in, and they take off the VHF antenna and screw a UHF one onto the mount. All of the equipment is already installed. (Antenna holes already drilled, power already run to radio, etc. The radio shop can do all of this in 10 minutes per vehicle.
