Fire Boat Update on 343

Was at a meeting last night and we were informed that the Boat will be put in the water on Friday for some tests. Also it could be in New York by the end of the year.

Following is the official press release from FDNY talking about Friday's launch.  Boat is expected in NYC waters in December.  Wow, what a boat.  Look back at the latest pictures and I think you will agree.  I love the choice of the sky blue color for bottom paint.  The boat is painted red, white and blue!

I somewhat surprised at the news release stating the original Firefighter is 50 years old.  I believe it was built in 1938; I and others in the Fire Bell Club went on a cruise on the Firefighter when she was 50 years old and that was back in 1988.

Yes, according to Clarence E. Meek in an article titled " Fireboats Through the Years,"  The FireFighter was commissioned in 1938 making it 71 years old.

Does anyone know any details of the trip. I now live on the east coast of Florida and would love to see it go by. I'm sure they carry enough fuel to make the trip. I heard they left yesterday.

Don't know when they plan to leave, or if they have . . . but the original news release said it would be an 8 day trip . . . so I'd guess they'd be off the east coast of FL on day 2 or so, but that's just a guess.

The boat is not expected to leave Panama City until December. There is still much interior work to be completed, and then there is testing and sea trails.  From this point in time, it is not expected to be in service for 18 months to accomplish all of these tasks and training of FDNY personnel.
