Fire Boat Update on FireFighter II

December 2009 progress report available at:

Looking really good.

Firefighter II was launched at Eastern Shipbuilding on March 19, 2010.  Both boats are in the water!

Does any one know if the staffing is the same for the new boats as they are currently or will there be several openings in the M.B.?

Don't quote me on this, but I doubt the department would add more of any title given the present situation being faced. Also the deck guns on the new boats can be controlled from the pilot house, so there's no need to have any one manning the deck guns for long hours.

What's the max gpm output on the bow turret and what size pipe is it?

The bow monitor is rated at 17000 gpm and is on a 16-inch supply line from the pumps.  Pipe and tip sizes are not immediately available.

Wow! 16 inch pipe sounds like a you're describing a 16 inch gun from a battleship!

Fire Fighter II departed Panama City for NYC at 2:25 PM, November 5th.  Arrival expected about November 18th.

As of 10:50 AM Fire Fighter II is four miles off Point Pleasant, NJ, making 11.1 knots.

FIREFIGHTER II HAS ARRIVED IN NYC HARBOR & WILL BE PARKED AT THE NAVY YARD.
