Please VOTE for Service Dog with Local Ties!!

To quote Jack Nickolson I"m back. By the way Jack happy to see your Lakers hit the hy-way. Celts still around

SASSY is ninth in total service dog votes, well!!!!!!!!!! Imagine if I was you wife, a real pain in the ass!!!!

OK I voted but if you hit the site for 2011 finalists you will find an outstanding dog. 9-11-01 a plane hits Tower 1, a blind man is trapped on the 78th floor with his Golden Retreiver guide dog. The dog guided him down 78 floors to safety, after the collapse the dog guided him to a subway entrance for safety. I am just curious any FDNY members see this, I AM NOT DOUBTING THIS. The guide dog's name has been retired. VOTE DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I checked out the site, guys gotta vote. By the way the dog that won the Best dog was Roselle, the dog who guided his blind master down 70+ stories. After exiting the building, Roselle guided his master to safety while hell on earth erupted. I am really sad to say Roselle past away before he would have received his "good boy". All kinds of stuff in the air, did Roselle pay the same price many FDNY brothers have paid. By the way the name Roselle has been retired, kinda like being the "9" of the Red Sox, the "?" of the  Yankees, and Jackie Robinson from baseball. I love my dogs, best buddies, wagging tails, wet noses. Some times I just get "old school", they did it for me, I will do it for you. GG

Old School Bastard here, well how about some support. Shit I live in Chicago and I am voting for a service dog from somewhere else, location does not matter to me. Come on guys, it takes 2 minutes, it is free and down deep you get a feeling of accomplishment.  Read the write up on Roselle, if you had some "Daisy Dukes" and a t-shirt could you help a blind man down 79 stories, and then after the collapse guide him to a safe haven. Hell I am a human being, with all this going around I would be confused. Roselle did what it was trained to do, which is what all these dogs do, serve and protect their friends (they do not answer to masters or owners in my book)  Please I know I am a pain in the ass, help me on this. Help me, well I will always help you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grumpy "Pain in the Ass"Grizzly here, did you vote. I know every story on this site rips your heart out, every one of these individuals should have a service dog. This country pisses away Billions of dollars on BS situations. We are not the cops of humanity, fix your own social problems. We pay our taxes to OUR government, OUR  government should take care of its own. First responders need help before somw war-lord who wil take US Money to protect their position. Take care of us, we do it for you, get your  head out of your ass and support those who support you They did it for you, would you do it for them.

I heard SASSY has BOSTON RED SOX Champions 2004/07 has blood lines in her. Must really piss off the Yanks, first team to go 3-1 to 3-4, love  Damon even if he went to the dark (Yankees) side. Come on guys, it is not about a dog, it is about a human being, one of us. Get off your keyboard and vote. Guys I did 2 tours in SEA, my son did 2 tours in Iraq. My son's unit adopted a dog, ask him how it helped the troops. A rub  behind the ears, a cool drink of water, fetching a toy. These dogs served troops in a hostile situation without reservation. Did you worry if his nose was not cold/wet they did.  I would. Andy Munzing, FAC Trail 39, 68/69.

I know I have been a pain in the ass about this, well deal with it. You hit their home site up and there are hundreds of dogs helping their owners. I wish I could vote for every dog there, I know when I or my wife have a bad day Austin and Bear have wet noses, a wagging tail to welcome us home. All I want to do is help someone who really needs help, come one guys give a vote!!!! Maybe I am just pissing in the wind, no delete that, this site cares. I would do it for you do it for me, well no SASSY. He is one of OURS..

Hero Dog Award

Long time club member of the Arizona 10-13 retired NYPD Detective Fred Brown had a serious brain injury back in November. He hit his head as a result of a fall in his home. His service dog Sassy came to his aide as he lay unconscious on the fall. Sassy ran to the bedroom and jumped on the bed to wake Fred's wife
Betsy. Sassy then returned to Fred's side until he was removed to the hospital. Fred was in ICU for several weeks as a result of the fall. Fred as well as the doctors and emergency personnel feel that he would have died if not for his Service Dog Sassy.

As a result Sassy has to be nominated for 2012 American Humane Association Hero Dog Award.
The winner of the award is determined by the number of votes it gets after reading about the incident.
You are allowed to vote once per day per e-mail address. Let's do our best to honor one of our own heroes along with his hero dog. You can vote daily until voting ends on June 30th. Please forward this information to any and all Police, Military or Fraternal organizations that you know of or belong to. Forward it to everyone on your e-mail list.

Come on guys we have one day left. I know I am a pain in the ass but there are things I beleive in. I cannot sleep past 4:30 AM,  Bear and Austin wakes me up. Dogs seem to be a whole lot smatter than us. So God Damn It vote for  SASSY. You have asked me to vote for best old firehouse, best looking engine/truck/rescue. How about an individual who works daily to support his/her charge.

The voting is closed. But due to the fires in Colorado, the loss of power/internet in Va, NC, DC, Md, WVA, voting  results has been postphoned. I apologize if I aggrevated anyone on this site in behalf of this post, well draw your own conclusions. I am a Viet vet with combat missions  in SEA, I was lucky to come home. Our loss rate was 50%,  I want to help those who reall need the help. A dog, any dog will always have a wet nose, a wagging tail,  be it a service dog, guide dog or just a dog you recued from a shelter. All any dog wants is a sign you love him/her, do not forget it. I guess I am OOS from this, hope SASSY wins. 10/24,10/8GG

OK Sassy did not win, well at least we tried. There is a collie named Holly who is a military service dog more tours in Afghanistan than 99% of all service members. Wanna help!!!!

HOW ABOUT THIS GUY .......  An extremely dedicated dog has continued to show its loyalty, keeping watch on its owner's grave six years after he passed away.

Capitan, a German shepherd, reportedly ran away from home after its owner, Miguel Guzman, died in 2006. A week later, the Guzman family found the dog sitting by his grave in central Argentina.

Miguel Guzman adopted Capitan in 2005 as a gift for his teenage son, Damian. And for the past six years, Capitan has continued to stand guard at Miguel's grave. The family says the dog rarely leaves the site.

"We searched for him, but he had vanished," widow Veronica Guzman told LaVoz.com. "We thought he must have got run over and died.

'The following Sunday we went to the cemetery, and Damian recognized his pet. Capitan came up to us, barking and wailing as if he were crying."

Adding to the unusual circumstances, Veronica says the family never brought Capitan to the cemetery before he was discovered there.

"It is a mystery how he managed to find the place," she said.

Cemetery director Hector Baccega says he and his staff have begun feeding and taking care of Capitan.

"He turned up here one day, all on his own, and started wandering all around the cemetery until he eventually found the tomb of his master," Baccega said.

"During the day he sometimes has a walk around the cemetery, but always rushes back to the grave. And every day, at six o'clock sharp, he lies down on top of the grave, stays there all night."

But the Guzman family hasn't abandoned Capitan. Damian says the family has tried to bring Capitan home several times but that he always returns to the cemetery on his own.

"I think he's going to be there until he dies, too. He's looking after my dad," he said.
