The boom can be replaced, the rig itself is only 10 to 13 years old and can be sent to or sold to another department.

BCR said:I think there is a good chance they got rid of it just because it is different, they put it on the Island to avoids maintenance and repairs, for a dept this big with a one of a kind rig it might be easier just to get rid of it then to try and order parts and make repairs down the road, I also think when they get rid of something it goes to highest bidder, could be a dept, apparatus sales co. Or in this case a scrap yard. Highest dollar prevails. I have been at similar auctions where scrap dealers buy trucks that are perfectly capable of being used still but end up cutting them up and parting them out because there more money in it for them that way.
They may have to sign an agreement when they purchased the apparatus that they will not resell it. That way FDNY has more control over who ends up with their used equipment.baileyjeff said:I called Brookfield to attemt to buy the rig and they would not speak to me about it.
I didn't see It there today so it might have been cut up already.Bulldog said:They may have to sign an agreement when they purchased the apparatus that they will not resell it.
