I was still home when this occurred, but off duty. I headed in on recall but was cancelled due to there not being many injuries. The train did not derail except for the front engine. There were 380 plus souls on board the train, so had it fully derailed we would have had a significant challenge with our resources. The first arriving units knew they were responding to a train vs truck, but did not know the Republican Congressional leadership was on board. They knew something was different when they arrived on location and found the US Capitol Police outside with long guns protecting the train. In the last six months in our area there has been riots, a car attack on a crowd, a helicopter crash that took the lives of two State Troopers and now a train crash with the Congress on board. I left the following day after the train crash for New York City for a few days. Probably safer there...
