Is there any particular reason they won't assign South Brooklyn engines on a greater alarm in this area of North SI? Quick look at the maps suggests E242 and surrounding companies would be much faster into this than the far-out SI companies such as E164

The Verrazzano Bridge is unpredictable traffic-wise.

I was the Captain of Engine 26 from 1991 to 2000, and we almost never relocated to Staten Island, in all that time. I was told that due to the fact that the transit time from Midtown to Staten Island, was too great. Generally, Engine 26 never relocated due to the high value and high profile of the Times Square area. Most Manhattan Engine Companies had alarm box cards that gave instructions for responding to Staten Island via the tunnels to New Jersey, but I don't think that was ever done in modern times. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
