Apparently fire was in the stairwell again and victims found there. Unknown if door was left open or what still under investigation but very sad. Prayers.

Thank you as always Dan for the help

Let me see if I have this straight. They send Car 421- the Third Division Deputy- to Inwood, to tell the Seventh Division Deputy how to run his fire.
And Car 3 is already there. Seems like HR is gonna have to get involved.
I think it's a seniority thing - they assign 421 and 422 (when needed) to deputies who have time in rank. Now, you may argue that doesn't matter, but I think that's the logic.

Furthermore, if you don't like the concept of 421 you probably don't like the concept of the citywide tour commander in general as the personnel all passed the same test (deputy) and the only difference between the deputies and the DAC (or AC) in the citywide roles is an appointment.

All very true. Somebody has gotta be in charge.

In Houston, a previous Department Chief was an out-of-town DEI hire; nice person, good resume. A veteran District Chief observed that the guy had never been an IC at any fire bigger than an outhouse. If he went to an incident, he would talk to the press- the Mayor would be happy and the press were too stupid to know any better. Otherwise, he was wise to limit his involvement to asking the IC if he needed anything.

421 and 422 is to cover the city. 4E was still at the 4th Alarm. They are to “cover” the citywide while the CWTC is busy. Yes Car 3 responded and so did everyone else but they are coming from Brooklyn. Div 3 was there before any of the staff chiefs from Brooklyn. It’s not telling another Chief of the same rank what to do. It’s helping with the fire just like can other multiple. Div 7 is dealing with multiple patients…
