You also have to keep in mind the population being talked about is estimated census population. If you research groups and sites tracking immigration, there is an estimated 500,000 to 800,000 illegal immigrants living in NYC, most likely living in illegally modified (Black Sunday) tenements etc...

Can't imagine what it's like to be working in a FH and it gets shut down. You put everything you have into a place, hard work, pride, learning the area and it's residents, then getting kicked in the teeth. Growth is one thing, combining single units into one station etc...201/114, 63/39, 15/18...

I was thinking the same thing. Just doing a quick tally of Engines, Ladders, Rescue and Squad...That's 130+ FF's. My Dept doesn't have 130 FF's on the floor in all our stations combined during a given tour.
