Are you asking what EMS resources are assigned to different types of MCIs? Or are you asking who is in charge of Medical Branch on scene? Medical Branch is a blanket term for EMS units, not a call type.

Unless the matrix has been revise, on the 10-75 or when the Box is loaded up due to quality and quantity of calls being received its a minimum of : 1 BLS, 1 ALS and 1 Conditions car (EMS Officer).

The numbers you see are the minimum number and type of resources for the particular signal. If the number of patients is increasing or it’s a rapidly unfolding dynamic event you request additional by type based on incident needs. As an Officer I always tried to go above the minimum numbers asking for additional while enroute based on the radio traffic from the incident. Ambulance crews don’t really have that latitude. They should but that doesn’t mean they will. Regards to the Duty Captain question. No Duty Captain for well over 5 years now. They were abolished because of labor managements issues. Captains still exist and you will see them just not as the Duty Captain.

One more thing don’t cancel responding resources unitil you have a complete understanding of the situation at hand. Keep everyone responding even if it’s on 10-20 because once you cancel the unit they will most definitely get another assignment and not be able continue to the original assignment should things go south.

-That is unless they get flagged down and waved into the original assignment, wink wink. -

I saw that division captains were including for the EMS side of the response matrix for a hazmat incident according to one of the department orders from this year. (Order 14, Supp 11) Is this just a mistake on the departments side?

The matrix was revised on 2/2/24

Such as? Most MCIs that don't have ALS are traumas, which ALS can't do a whole lot to begin with and could always be requested if need be. Also they all have ALS officers who could needle decompress, etc.
