Initially a different box was out with the same numeric but on 201st St. that box was made a 10-31, companies were then assigned to this box, L-165 was told to remain 10-8, reassigned on the 10-75

165 is in front of 133 (both behind 162) on this tight block. Is it possible that 165 got in ahead of 133 bc they were closer after the other box?

Being told to “remain 10-8” and turning and going home are two completely different things…lol. Told this story before but we (133) were told to remain in service and not respond to a job out east of us. Pretty close to this location actually. Anyway, it sounded good so we headed over there…just in case. I literally parked around the corner from the job as we monitored the handi talkie. ADC Manahan requested an additional engine and truck. Turned on the lights and turned the corner..drove maybe 500 feet to the fire. We jump off the rig and report in to ADC Manahan. He’s got his signature cigarette and styrofoam cup of coffee..takes a look at us and says “what took ya so long”…Lolol.

Wow…Awful move. Too bad he didn’t have to go back to 13th Street and sit across the kitchen table from your highly respected dad. Mightta gotten an earful. 6th always had excellent chiefs…mostly…lol.

I worked with Jimmy Manahan when I was in 112 and he was in 277, but before that I worked with his father in E 5, and little Jimmy came to E 5’s Christmas parties. I guess that makes me old. Ok, now I’m 10-8

LtQ… that makes you senior…not old…lol. Jimmy was a great chief. Worked in great shops and learned what was important and what wasn’t. Early on in 133’s existence, we’re still figuring everyone out. We have BI… which on this day meant monitoring the radio in quarters, then when asked your 10-10, picking a location you could beat the chief to…lol. Sure enough, the 5-0 asks… we tell…and off we go. We’re at the location about 15-20 minutes…no chief. Boss gets on the radio, explains we’ve been there and are there any further instructions from the 5-0. Nope. So we head back. We’re in quarters 5 minutes and Chief Manahan calls. He says to Lt G…you know how when I ask for a 10-10 you give me a location we both know you’re not at? Cause you know someone downtown is listening? Well I’m asking you for a location we both know I’m not coming to for the same reason. Let’s all just make everyone happy. Lololol. All that said, he demanded performance on the fire ground. Terrific.

No, you know you’re old when you remember that chief was an 8 year old kid at the Christmas party. We got promoted together and worked in Bushwick . He then asked if I wanted to get in his study group, and I said no, go figure. Anyway no regrets, I also worked with BC Wilkinson, Mike and I were firefighters in 155. Great places to work with great guys.
