Should lifeguards be part of the FDNY instead of NYC Parks? What one activist is proposing

It's being called a possible solution to our city's ongoing lifeguard shortage. Some in South Brooklyn want lifeguards to be part of the FDNY.

Even if this did happen, and that's a big IF. Would it be similar to the way LACoFD lifeguards work?

Presently keeping staffing levels high enough to maintain safety & efficiency is a challenge.....adding Lifeguard Duties would further stretch things out.
