For me, FDNYs Rescue 2 is where I got my first experience with the FDNY.
It was the late spring of 1968 and Rescue 2 was on Carlton Ave with Engine Co 210.
I had been invited down to the firehouse by an Engine 210 firefighter nicknamed "TAD", who I met while working in a local drugstore in Bridgeport, Ct.
At that time, I met the late Lt Richard Hamilton at the firehouse who was one of the most decorated members in the FDNY.
Not only did I visit the firehouse, but for the first time ever in my life I got to ride and respond to incidents with them.
As I tell people, for me I started off with The Major Leagues of the entire fire service.
Lt Hamilton then invited me and my younger brother to ride with them on a Saturday night - and WHAT A NIGHT IT WAS, as the FDNY was at the beginning stages of the "FDNY War Years".
From then on, my brother and I were hooked.
THANK YOU to ALL those members of FDNYs Engine 210 and Rescue 2, many who are no longer with us.
THEY TREATED US GREAT.
I tell my story in the thread on this website titled "My Younger Buff Years".
If you haven't seen it yet, I hope you will take the time to check it out.
Many other members have contributed their stories and photos as well.
HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY TO FDNY's RESCUE CO 2
