He began his life saving career working with the NYC Health and Hospitals Ambulance Service before taken over by the FDNY, known today as the FDNY/EMS.

He then became a Washington, D.C. Firefighter working in one of D.C.s busiest fire companies and performing a heroic rescue which he never received the proper recognition for.

But his goal in life was to become a New York City Firefighter which he accomplished and during his career he worked in some of the FDNYs busiest companies.
Those companies included Ladder 112, Engine 88, Ladder 38 and Ladder 5.

His wife wrote a book titled: "By the grace of God", telling her survival story of working on an upper floor of the World Trade Center on 9/11 while wondering if her husband is alive as well.

He also wrote a book titled "They Saved New York".

He has also contributed to this site with his "Glory Days stories and photos"

I am talking about "JohnnyGage", aka Dan P., a good friend to many of us here.

Johnny, I once learned from an FDNY member,
"Don't brag about yourself - let others do it for you".
Hope you don't mind me doing it for you, Dan

So Mr Gage, I have a song here with photos, that I would like to dedicate to you.
I'm sure some of us will remember this.

Wow, how about that! Many thanks, thats very nice of you Willy, I truly appreciate your kind thoughts. No hero here, just a very blessed guy by GODs grace. I've been blessed with great friends, family and wonderful memories more than anyone can ask for...when asked if my cup is half full or half empty, I say; I'm thankful for the cup! Wishing all my friends here a very Happy, healthy and Blessed St. Patricks Day today!...Take no prisoners!

You're right Dan, GREAT FRIENDS counts big time.
I will add to this only that "I think" you once told me "HEALTH IS WEALTH".
That counts too.

By the way, a few of NYCFIRE.NET members in the photo that maybe some of you might recognize.

All the BEST Guys - see ya on the next round.
Meantime - "Stay Low and Go - cause it may Blow" (oh wait a minute, you guys are too old for that stuff now)
