    7883, if you are referring to the orange insert that has "Prob" and the company number beneath it I believe that the company part is added by making a tape on one of those label makers and done when assigned to a unit. If the tape is peeled back it will still have the original "Firefighter"...

    Unfortunately, we have lost another singer of our youth. Jimmie Rodgers who had hits with "Honeycomb", "Uh Oh, I'm Falling In Love Again" and others passed away on January 18th at the age of 87. Rest In Peace Jimmy and thanks for the memories.

    When did that start? Units radio numbers were based on Battalions, ex; 21X, 22B, 23A. It made no difference if it was a FDNY unit or a Voluntary Hospital unit for numbering.
