Here is a site about the volunteer fire departments within the city limits. https://vfanyc.org/

    Edgewater Park

E72 is first due to Edgewater Park. Do they take the satellite on the initial alarm? I thought if 1st, 2nd, or 3rd due on the first alarm, companies act as an engine and don’t take the second piece, be it a satellite, a foam piece, or Haz-Tech piece. Can the officer decide depending on what is...

    5/18/23 Brooklyn - 10-77- Box 3762

I thought I heard when the CIDS was read that there was an OS&Y valve on the 16th floor. Did I hear that right? I never heard of an OS&Y valve up that high.

I ask again, where did CJames go? 😫😩😣

    Rundown of units at 9-11

I don’t know the answer to that one. If I had to guess, I would say probably not initially. If they were rotated through, they probably sent cover pieces there first. Ladder 31 in the South Bronx stayed put. A Westchester County engine from Banksville was assigned to that station. The boss on...

    Rundown of units at 9-11

I very much agree with your statement! I’m not criticizing, but I have read absolutes such as, “Squad 8 will never leave Staten Island” or “Engine 70, Ladder 53 will never leave City Island”. Granted those may be the LAST, BOTTOM RUNG moves, but in a pinch any and all units and personnel are...

    Hazmat

This list is correct, however just as a way of further explanation: For hazmat purposes, the 12 above units are all regarded as identical resources. A request for a haz-tech unit won’t necessarily get a haz-tech engine, it could be a squad. It depends on availability and travel distance.

    Rundown of units at 9-11

One resource which could be used is department records. As you mentioned, many of the members from all departments involved have retired or passed away. I can’t imagine the time it would take to go to all the departments in Westchester and Nassau counties, and the New Jersey departments to look...

    5/14/23 Bronx 3rd Alarm Box 3890

That is unbelievable about City Island. A real logistical conundrum. 🔥

    Rundown of units at 9-11

I have often thought about doing a detailed history of 9/11 (perhaps 24 hours after the first plane hit). I would like to track down each and every company that responded to the towers and what FD’s came into the city. I realize that would be hundreds of hours of work. Even with that, it would...

I figured something was up. You’re pretty sharp with your rundowns 👍

    5/14/23 Brooklyn 3rd Alarm Box 2999

I wasn’t sure if, depending on location, E159 w/the satellite or E165 w/HazMat would respond into Brooklyn as back-up for E284 or E250 if they were unavailable. I see they do. Staten Island sent 2 Engines, 1 Rescue, 1 RAC & Div 8 over the bridge.

Mount Vernon (Westchester), NY- 3rd Alarm 05-09-23

THEMAJESTIRIUM1: Do you know if exposure 2 saved or was it going to be demolished? Whomever built that building knew what they were doing. The amount of heavy smoke and fire in the original building was pushing good. I see the #4 wall of exposure 2 has some severe charring. Hopefully they were...

    4/24/23 Bronx 2nd Alarm Box 4047

It’s not the distance. E70 is on City Island and does not relocate. Even a 10-99 automatically will get a cover engine headed in that direction.

Was a Battalion Chiefs job more dangerous back in the day then it is today?

    I kind of miss CJames when he wasn’t in a time-out. 😂

Was a Battalion Chiefs job more dangerous back in the day then it is today?

Read the thread. It began with you asking a question of was it more dangerous to be a battalion chief in the past. The thread started down the path that it is less dangerous today because the chiefs don’t go into the fire area. I brought up the point that chiefs DO go into the fire area...
