Thank you bxengine! I was hoping someone would speak up and back me! I finally got fed up and started acting dumb 😂. Whoever says it doesn’t matter or there’s a difference from back then to now has absolutely no idea what they are talking about!!! I try to be humble and patient, but this whole...
Wow! I guess I have a lot to learn. Silly me thought the 10-75 battalion went to the fire floor and/or floor above to help coordinate and evaluate the fire attack. I wonder where they go in and “hide”. Silly they even wear air packs! And the floors above chief on a 10-77 maybe runs things from...
To my way of thinking, a battalion is a battalion. If the 5th Alarm battalion is killed, it’s still a chief 🤔.
All chiefs don’t get a buffs view or look through a windshield. From reading about the chiefs’ jobs and seeing videos from fires, I see a lot of battalions in full turnout gear with...
Yes, exactly!
Darrell, Remember that 24/7/365 there is always a staff chief on-duty. Because it was a Sunday, it can be deduced that Car 8 was the citywide tour commander.
Despite having nationally accepted standards, some states chose not to accept a certification issued by another state even if it meets the national standard. Kind of crazy.
You may be correct, maybe somebody was mad! I think the point is that no one is sure. I would rather give the benefit of the doubt. I wouldn’t want to live life with my default response being negative and blaming. 👍
But there are those who are above the law! Prime example is E70. “Engine 70, relocate to Engine 297 in Queens.” That would raise some eyebrows and the phone would start ringing. 😉
Good info, thanks. I was a county dispatcher for 28 years and moving apparatus is never easy! Always so much to consider and sometimes after you move one piece, a structure fire comes in for their first due district.
One final question: I understand what you said about the decision dispatcher...
Maybe a dispatcher can answer this. Do the divisions chiefs get a ticket when a box is going out for fire in their response area right away, or do they get a ticket only after a 10-75 or all-hands is transmitted?
I am curious how relocations happen and who takes part in the decision making progress? There are the dispatchers and the supervisors for each borough. I believe there is a chief dispatcher on at all times who can get a bird’s eye view of coverage citywide. And of course there is the suggestions...
If anyone has a contact in the area, I would be interested in hearing how they coordinated the response.
Fuel oil burning, a second fire under the bridge, haz-mat runoff, and probably water issues!
