To replace aerial ladders on two Mack B85 Special chassis the Chicago Fire Department purchased 2 Magirus 146' units from FDNY. They were assigned to Trucks 3 and 39.
Fire was in the Hotel Lenox and was the result of an electrical explosion in the rear of the building. Second alarm and extra trucks were called to assist in the hotel's evacuation because of a heavy smoke condition.
