Any reason why they call it Squad 800 and don't use the changeable numbers like they do on the spare engines and trucks instead?

    Collapse Rescue

The quoted price seems incredibly high. The average cost for a heavy rescue is probably between $1.5 and $2 million right now. Even with how detailed FDNY's specs are, I couldn't see a rescue costing more than an Aerialscope. Maybe the price also includes all new equipment but unless that's...

1/4/24 Manhattan All Hands Transit Box 7310

Could be wrong but I believe they carry additional scba bottles, vent fans and some MCI equipment like SKEDs.

    Wasn't it Kenworth/Rosenbauer?

    Collapse Rescue

Interesting that they spec’d the L9 motor when Cummins is replacing it with a 10 liter by 2027. Most manufacturers stopped taking orders for them because they’re so far behind that a rig ordered now will be built with the new 10 liter. Then again maybe thats the reason for a commercial chassis...

    12/20/23 Queens 5th Alarm Box 7254

Between the water/mold & smoke damage most of the involved wing will be severely damaged. The problem is repairs usually get held up by the insurance companies until a cause is determined by both the FD and the insurance company's own investigators. Repairs could take a year or more.

I believe Hartsdale also relocated an engine to Station 13.

    New Seagraves

Interesting. Firehouse Expo is next week in Columbus, OH and no major manufacturers other then Sutphen (who is based in Columbus) are going. Sometimes they leave it to the dealers to rent a booth but strange that neither opted to show up to either show.

    Rescue 4

There is no "perfect" manufacturer. Alot of the problems tie back to the specs. The salesman will give you anything you want, it's up to the truck committee to do their homework and know what will and won't work. I know the FDNY is extremely diligent in their specs, but that also leads to...

New Haven, Ct Building Collapse 6/2/23

Out of curiosity, aside from Rescue 1, are there other companies trained for technical rescue in New Haven? I know they used to run 2 Squads up until they put the Rescue in service. Do they have any support units like a box truck or trailers that carry additional equipment to support the...

    Charlotte, NC 5th Alarm 05/18/23

Looks like were using light weight trusses throughout. Hasn't NYC been approving "vertical lumberyard" high rises like this for a while now?

Is Mount Vernon on scene too? Only a few doors in from the city line.

Who remembers the old Ring Saw

The Ring Saw is still carried by many Rescue's and USAR Teams for concrete cutting.

4/17/23 Port Chester NY 3rd Alarm

There’s plenty of manpower that are on duty 24/7 ( New Rochelle, White Plains, Greenburgh, Scarsdale, Stamford etc.) and a hell of a lot closer than Bedford or Yorktown. I guess given PC’s history it wouldn’t look good to call paid firefighters to your scene after they laid off 8 of them.

Yorktown - 31 miles to the relocate for an Engine Bedford Hills - 21 miles to the scene for a "Special Call" Tower Ladder Mount Kisco - 20 miles to relocate Ossining - 20 miles for a Tower Ladder This fire should lead to a study on mutual aid in Westchester. I guess New Rochelle or White...

4/3/23 Garden City FD New Engine Drawing

The area dealer for Marion (Neville) used to sell Ferrara before REV/Ferrara yanked their dealership and gave it to Hendrickson (along with E-One and Spartan). I know many departments stayed loyal to Neville due to their relationships and their service capabilities. As a side note, Marion...

Does anyone know if the Burn Foundation still runs their annual seminar at The Rock? They always put on a great show.

    New/replacement firehouses

I believe there was talk about putting Rescue 1 in a new house capable of housing the frontline & spare rescues as well as the collapse rescue (similar to Rescue 2 & 3's new houses). Not sure how serious that discussion was.
