Right. That's what I was referring to. On paper when they say ohh the FD budget is higher now then before, but in reality its not.

Ahh. The media sources. On the brightside at least they got the location correct.

    Los Angeles Brush Fire 1/7/25

I saw a report yesterday I think, where they were saying that the FD budget actually increased because the ff union was still negotiating at the beginning of the budget year but finalized after the fact. At that point the budget went up to negotiated raises etc. HOWEVER The telling numbers...

What probably hurts even more, is the personal items at the stations the crews had in their lockers. Like pictures, religious items... and that doesn't even count personal vehicles etc

When you look at the numbers of engines deployed, 297, compared to FDNYs Frontline units, it's about double the number of engines FDNY fields on the average day. Just to this 1 fire.

What doesn't help either, is that a development is cut out of a Forrest, and plants are chosen for their aesthetic beauty and not functionality. They put highly flammable plants around their houses and wonder why they burn down. We see pretty big fires in Florida every so often. Not nearly as...

No. And they havent for decades. I forget the exact reason why, and it may have involved a prescribed burn that got away and they found out that their insurance wasn't up to snuff. Then add in the save the trees people, and if you try and fireproof your property we'll fine you, and here we are...

    12/19/24 Queens 2nd Alarm Box 1349

Correct me if im wrong, but 107 should be 2nd due truck in front of 142, on the 2nd unless 173 was the 4th truck on the 1st. Doesnt make sense to me as 142 beats 107 to 165 and Cross Bay all day, but 107 is due before them into the Rockaways.

    12/16/24 Queens 2nd Alarm Box 1024

There is a system that will do just that. Polk County which dispatches for most of the municipalities in the County, Orange and few other places use it. Especially on the EMS side. It uses a combination of area, AVL ( Automatic Vehicle Locator) and a few other factors before sending a unit. Even...

Could very well be. I've had a similar conversation at my dept more then a few times. ( We do automatic aid due to the way the city and county lines run. Closest unit responds. Alot of our guys didnt like that. Probably still dont. But its above my pay grade. The person with more gold on their...

    12/16/24 Queens 2nd Alarm Box 1024

I think the rescues themselves are fiercely territorial. As in my borough my call. I remember reading in Life on the Edge, how a certain rescue Lt, in SI who later on became R2s Capt, managed to piss off R2 for successfully getting some Brooklyn boxes. At least according to how the book portrays...

My mistake. I saw 1048 and somehow thought this box for some odd reason. Eother way the companies at both boxes had a busy tour.

    12/2/24 Queens 10-75 Box 6792

If im not mistaken, FDNY has a maintenance division specifically for maintaining all of the pull boxes and ers boxes, as well as the direct station to dispatch com system. I forget what it's called off hand. I used to hear the com trucks all the time on the Queens frequency as they tested and...
