Being a non-NYC member (from upstate NY, North Syracuse, nothing but lots of snow) could someone explain a rear tenement. Is this building surrounded by other buildings and only accessible through alleys or another building?

I will have to be "On call" on a rotating schedule every 6th or 7th week. The is to back up the on-duty chiefs in the event of a significant fire or other emergency/weather event.

I found this link that references the area known as "The Hole" that Johnny Gage talks about in post #237 on the Glory Days thread. Known as the worst neighborhood in NYC to this day. If things continue on the downward spiral they are currently on, other neighborhood may soon rival "The Hole"...
