Haz mat doesn’t get detail or hired to work OT in either the Rescues or the squads. But it does works the other way around ….all Resuce and squad members are trained to Haz Mat technician level . Haz met members are not trained to rescue tec , confined space , high angle , collapse , trench ...

I find that very hard to believe…. HM -1 isn’t even assigned on a phone alarm for a fire at their home box. The reason being …. They want HM available ..for only for Haz mat runs. So …I highly doubt they would be assigned to usually long duration water rescue runs.…especially seeing how...

I’ve been to numerous water rescues …many in northern Queens and never seen or heard of HM-1 being assigned as a ”water rescue unit “. Just because they may have a zodiac, doesn’t mean there a water rescue unit.

You have HM-1 list as a water rescue unit ….are you sure about that?

Their responsibilities at multiple alarm fires …fire fighting. Brings an additional highly trained, experienced firefighter to the scene …he‘ll team up with the Rescue Battlion on scene and operate with him as needed. Remember the TAC units were around way before the collapse rigs….about 2005...

All of Soc is also trained and equipped for swift water rescue and the 5 Rescues are all SCUBA trained . SOC is also equip with high axle vehicles , John boats and inflatable Zodiac boats.

Its not only about being capable of making a turn out of quarters….the apparatus floor may not be able to support the additional weight of a 95’.
