Isnt 143 truck a tiller? They must be running a spare. And I saw some pics online of 151 truck being a tiller back in the day, now it's a rearmount? Does queens have any tillers?

Yes FDNYSI  H & L 143 is the only tiller in Queens........At the present time there rig is in the shops having a major overhaul done to it from soup to nuts...........It will be like a new rig when they get it back..........They are not due for a new rig any time soon.................

And yes they are using a spare rearmount  since there rig went to the shops...........

Heard they have a tough time time manuevering around the EL pillars on Jamaica Ave getting in and out of quarters without the tiller.

Yes kid  143s area is not set up for anything but a tiller......I go to P/T 3 times a week and it is a block away from 294/143s quarters........They do infact have problems when going in and out of quarters.....The setup of the pillars on Jamaica Ave make it hard to turn into some blocks.........
Once they get there tiller back they will be happy...

They used to have a sign on the outside of quarters telling reloacters not to bring rearmounts and tower ladders into quarters.  You had to leave them outside on the street. I haven't been there in a long time. not sure if it is still there.

When someone asks me if LAD*x used to be a Tiller i smile & tell them EVERY LAD in NYC used to be a Tiller....as far as QNS as stated 143 is the only one left....the last 2 before now in QNS were 173 & 151 who kept them until at least the late'90s for 173 & into the 20s for 151...i remember when 151 was told they were getting a Tiller the CPT objected but was told by the bigwigs that if he protested or brought the complaint to the Community Board or other politicians that he would not have to worry about the issue because he would no longer be the CPT there anymore....as far as LAD*6 switching back & forth years ago i had posted on this before in another forum....the reason was that a previous CPT (a friend of mine) had wanted to get his newer FFs some experience outside of their normal response area so he requested & got a rearmount in order to be available to relocate to other rearmounts around the City.......years after that the subsequent CPT felt that a Tiller was much more advantageous for the response area.....it just so happened at that time late in '98 LAD*133 was being organized.....there were no acceptable rearmounts or tower ladders available at that time so LAD*6 was given a used Tiller & 133 was given 6s rearmount......my personal opinion is that ALL LADs (except TLs) should be Tillers.
