Certainly not the closest box, Mac. Box 3369 Marion at Fordham, 3370 Webster at Fordham both visible in a google street view. That's a long block from Fordham to 193d Street along Decatur Ave. my old stomping grounds. How/who determines the box that goes out?

Even so, 46, 42 both to Webster ave, straight up to Fordham. Mr BARB needs to get out and walk the streets.
 
The 3334 box was likely assigned based on the manual fire alarm box used or caller location.
The fire building is visible from Decatur and E193rd.

As for closest companies, here is the mileage (Air/Road) to 3334.
E-81  1.20 / 1.50

Sorry Florian but the fire building is NOT visible from Decatur and 193d. Ever been there ? Think not. I grew up on Decatur Ave. Mis - spent much of my youth in Scotty's Pool Hall on the corner of Fordham and Decatur.

Your mileage is to 193d St. A report of fire on  Fordham rd btw Marion and Decatur would call for either box 3369 or 3370. 46 goes out of qtrs to 175th st, left to Webster,  right straight to Fordham Rd. 1.4 miles, straight run.

3511 you asked for Barb you get it and continue to argue/disagree for whatever reason, I post the assignment card used in the Barb system, always mention that's if all available, I don't need to walk the streets or care about what you think of the area or history. I post without prejudice to units assigned or not. When at work I respond as directed by ticket received not the old running cards or outdated response cards. Box number posted Barb assignment given that's all, maybe you should contact Bronx dispatchers and tell them all you know and what box they should transmit or companies.

You got me dead cold Florian. That blue awning at the end of the looooong block appears to be the fire building. Wrong again I am. But as I have said before, it's not the first time for me....just ask my ex-wife. Thanks for setting the record straight. (But it still should have been box 3369 or 3370.  :'()

Mac8146, I was puzzled at the tone of your rebuke. I have always expressed thanks to you for posting the BARB, as well as those others with access to the information. Ditto to those who make the runs and provide the actual rundowns.

I must figure you thought my reference to MR. BARB as meaning you. Certainly not so. I have in the past referred to you as "the BARB man" and gman as "the card man". I never supposed either of you was responsible for what info was contained in either source. My "Mr BARB" was aimed at the program as a whole. If that was the cause of your irritation you got it dead wrong.

As for the discussion of assignments, it appears that many find it of interest (including you and engcap) based on the number who participate.

In the end, who runs where and in what order matters not a wit as long as the fires get put out. Just an interest to some, perhaps not to others. I leave this forum to judge.
