BK/B43: Transit Is Reporting On The F-Line Northbound One Wheel Of The Train Derailed.

Can just one wheel of a train derail?
Yes, it can. Those cars are about 79,000 lbs. each, and even at slow speed, it can be a nightmare for Maintenace personnel.

A half block west or so and 318/166 second due. Box is up the block from 245/161. Also wonder where 169 was that 147 was acting.

By looking at the pictures it was when of the trucks (4 wheels) that derailed.

if '' one wheel '' derails and it is still attached to the axle, what happens to the wheel at the other end of the axle ?

If one wheel comes off the track, then the second one comes off as well. If the entire truck comes off the track, then both axels that the truck holds are derailed.

Just the thought of that train car going over the side onto the street below if it had more force. Definitely would have been a historic 10-60 of some sort opposed to not even an AH.
